A Lifetime of Design

Nearly 40 years ago, I sewed a cotton sateen muumuu for a luncheon where Hawaii’s First Lady, Lynne Waihee, was the keynote speaker. To my surprise, she called me up to the podium to model my dress for the 300 guests in attendance.

That afternoon changed my life. Instead of mass-producing garments for retailers, I chose to share the craft of Hawaiian dressmaking with the world. My goal is simple: to help you sew timeless clothing that moves as gracefully as you do.

From Hand-Drafting to Your Home

I believe that a great garment starts with a perfect foundation. That’s why I combine old-world techniques with modern precision to ensure your sewing experience is a joy.

  • Hand-Drafted with Care: I begin every design by hand-drafting patterns using classic techniques I’ve honed over decades.

  • Tested for Real Life: I personally sew and wear-test every design to check for "flow." If a dress doesn't feel effortless when you move, I don't release it.

  • Professional Precision: Once perfected, my patterns are computer-graded for accuracy and printed on high-quality tissue by Simplicity Patterns.

  • Clear Guidance: I’ve written my instructions to be clear and approachable, including detailed drawings and my favorite personal sewing tips.
